won't you be the new one burn to shine

i've been wanting to get back into the photo-a-day groove for quite a while now, and i've been seeing a bunch of people do it and rock at it. and so, i started the other day. i'm only, what, a month late...better late than never, right?

here's what i have so far:

(these half-dead blossoms reside on top of the piano. but they're still pretty, no?)

(i was looking at a sneak peek i did a few months ago and loved how glitter looked as bokeh. so i put on my star-shaped filter on my 50mm lens and tried to do a glitter bokeh shot. not as easy as i thought it would be. hmph)

(linda kept teasing me with the cupcakes she recently bakes, and i started craving some. so i bought one from dots. yum.)

hopefully, this lasts a while.

i've also spent some good time on flickr:

1. if I could save time in a bottle..., 2. Dust in the wind, 3. Rising Star, 4. v-day series...., 5. I AM BACK, 6. i won't always love these selfish things

* some studio calico projects:

i believe the main kit is still available, along with 3 of the add-ons. and the gallery will blow you away once again, so get over there.

* this week's HMITM. there are 54 photos on here, and yes, it's a 2 pager.

* a digi:

this paper by katie pertiet rocks my world. it's coming out this weekend, and there will also be a sale/all-day event at DD. those are always good times.

* saw 27 dresses this weekend. aside from the fact that it made me feel kind of sad about my pitiful love life (or lack thereof), and the fact that james mardsen is ridiculously good looking, it made me have this huge urge to go shopping. her wardrobe in that movie was awesome. oh, the movie was cute.

have a good one :) let's hope the sun will stay out now :)

as deep as the sky under my skin

norcal involved:
a 2 hour flight delay. the continuation of the la burrita and top dog tradition. unnecessarily angry people at starbucks. thai food and cream puffs. venturing to new parts of the city. ocean beach, hiking trails, killing my feet, and an amazing view of the golden gate bridge. clear days. haight&ashbury, vintage, hippiness, and color galore. zachary's (aka the reason i keep flying up there). pool playing, winning, high fives, and midori sours. a boy. mama's and the most amazing french toast ever (i don't even LIKE french toast!). crazy chinatown ATMs. h&m, size 6 pants, and forever 21. seafood at yabbies. dressing up. dancing. munis and cabs. football. cha cha cha, sandwiches, and mango desserts. graffitied walls behind amoeba. more football. ramen and caterpillar rolls. barney's, baja burgers, steak cut and curly fries. pouring rain. waiting another flight delay (not mine).

everytime i get off the plane, i get the most bittersweet feeling. this time was no different. it was an awesome weekend, in more ways than one!

some photos:

unfortunately, i also came back with stomach bug so i spent all day today in bed.

i know i'll be back very, very soon. i can't wait!

have a good one :)

you got my time on a dotted line

late night musings while freezing in 40 degree weather:

- new AC = awesome.

- i ordered food the other day, and apparently my name is "calorine" now. it looks like calorie. is that a hidden message or something?

- crazy winds in LA yesterday. that was strange.

- came sorta close to missing my flight (i hate you LA traffic), then found out my flight had been delayed two hours due to weather delays in baltimore (that's where the aircraft was coming from).

- knew i'd get bored, so paid $10 for internet to pass the time.

- came here ridiculously hungry and immediately pigged out.

- musings while watching american idol yesterday and tuesday: it makes me wonder about people. then again, i love stupid people <3

- i have a slight unhealthy obsession with shoes. trying to decide on which pairs to pack is always a nightmare.

- the new spring clothes are way cute. sigh.

- these CD covers are totally awesome. their tunes are good, too!

- speaking of tunes, i went on an itunes spree. new discoveries:
Hem - We'll Meet Along the Way
Josh Kelley - Two Cups of Coffee
Josh Rouse - Sweetie
Jessie Baylin - Contradicting Words
Cary Brothers - The Glass Parade
Peter Bjorn and John - Let's Call it Off
Kate Voegele - It's Only Life

methinks it's time i start that playlist mini-album.

- tomorrow i plan aimlessly roam san francisco. i feel adventurous! :)

have a swell day :)

and thousands upon thousands made an ocean

just a random update.

- watched little miss sunshine. i loved it. so quirky, hilarious, endearing, so great.
- found an awesome deal on pointy black pumps - $6. hooray.
- me and amy were craving cupcakes (and were to lazy to make our own), so we went down to dots. i forgot how adorable that place was.
- was on the hunt for some shrinky dinks. apparently, they're uncool now because neither michaels or jo ann had them. how sad.
- want to make one of these. so cool.
- fried mac&cheese. and potato skins. yummm.
- i had a bunch of food cravings this week. i think i'm still craving food. sigh.
- remember oregon trail? yeah, it's on facebook. it's lame but strangely amusing. especially when your friends (aka: the people on your wagon) start dying of causes such as: suicide because you annoyed them so much, bad body odor, explosive diarrhea, and tobacco cravings. lol.
- i realized that i've barely picked up my camera the last few weeks. i miss taking photos. need to start again.
- lifehouse is going back on tour! yay.
- loving death cab for cutie again lately. i love rediscovering things i haven't listened to in awhile. also listening to a lot of sigur ros...they're out there ("post rock") and not for everyone, but it's so beautiful and peaceful-sounding.
- going up north this weekend to clear my head and refresh.
- feeling blah creatively which is annoying me. who stole all the mojo?

since i blog posts are better with visuals, here's a hybrid i did for the ideabooks4u blog last week.

photos are from when i chased around linda&co. with a camera. they are adorable, aren't they? plus, i couldn't resist using all the new valentine goodies, since i have the misfortune of being single and can't ususally use them. sigh.

have a good one!

i played this part a thousand times

things making me cheery:

- this post by linda. ethan is a riot.

- the fact that the word "post office" is trademarked. yeah, who knew? i thought that was pretty hilarious.

- the february studio calico kit dropped at my door today. it's full of awesomeness. the guessing thread is a good time.

- dumb people. in particular one guy who writes ridiculous pointless, pretentious, and lengthy emails. first of all, who writes like that? second of all, can you please get to your point? third of all, get over yourself. however, stupid people
amuse me when they are not angering me.

- jason wade on football: "We are playing "fan fest", which is basically the big party on the streets before the big College National Championship football game between LSU and Ohio State. Now I'm still debating who I want to win, but I'm leaning towards LSU since they are the home town heroes. On the other hand, I like the uniforms of the Ohio State team, so I might have to be neutral and cheer for both teams. This is the first football ball game I've ever been to believe it or not, and I'm pretty excited about it to say the least. I was the scrawny kid in high school who would try to stay away from the football team at all possible. But now that I'm an adult they're a little less intimidating than they use to be. I figure if I am going to be a full blown fan I need the necesarry equipment. Football jersey, sports hat, gloves, protection cup, and one of those helmet beer dispensers you see those big guys wearing" uhmmmmm....oooooook.

- freaks&geeks. why, oh why was this show cancelled?

- my friends. they are the best.

what is making you cheery these days?

i miss the years that were erased

some of you scrapbookers may have heard about or followed christine middlecamp's tragic story over the last several months. her husband, eric, was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of 35, leaving behind christine and their son ethan.

over the last few months, i have gotten to know christine from being on the studio calico team, and have admired her strength, courage, and grace through this. my heart aches for her and her family. april posted this on the studio calico boards today:

Many of you have expressed the desire to help in any way that you can. Because of that, we are offering a way to contribute toward a flower fund. Any amount beyond what is needed for flowers will be given to Christine to use as needed. You may send donations to the Studio Calico Paypal Account at april@studiocalico.com. Funds will be kept separate from regular kit fees (see instructions below).

Please title your donation “For Christine” in the email subject line. It is necessary that you indicate that on the email so that funds can be kept separate. Donations will be accepted until 10:00pm EST on Tuesday. Please do NOT donate after this time.

To send money to SC’s Paypal account, log into your Paypal account at www.paypal.com

Click on “Send Money” in the bar on the top of the page.

Enter april@studiocalico.com in the email line.

Enter “For Christine” in the subject line

Enter the amount you wish to donate.

Press “send”

You will then be directed to a verification screen

Please verify

at the very least, please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
